The name Haile Selassie which means ‘might of the Trinity’ was the Christian baptismal name given to the infant Tafari Makonnen, son of Ras Makonnen. So his father also bore the title Ras which means ‘head of an army’. The Emperor’s personal friend Christine Sandford wrote a biography of H.I.M. The Lion of Judah Hath Prevailed in which she said, “His companions during these years were his cousin Imeru Haile Selassie, later to become Ras, and Tafari Belaw.”…
